How to Choose an SEO Company (And Spot the Ones Wasting Your Money)

An honest SEO consultant on one side of a table and a hooded 'SEO guru' selling cheap fast results on the other

If you are about to pay someone to do your SEO, this is what I would tell you before you sign anything — from the side of the table where the business owner sits.

Most of them have never run a business like yours

For the other companies, they will try to sell you SEO, and they are not in the business. They will not check the difference.

I've come from the service business, and I know what needs to be done. And for that, I will tell you everything with transparency. I will tell you: with this keyword, we're gonna take first rank. These ones will take time.

And they end up saying, “Oh, one week you will get every keyword, blah blah blah.” It's not gonna happen. With SEO it's a time-consuming process, but after you've done it, it's a guaranteed organic lead.

The questions that expose them

They need to ask how many blogs you're gonna write. What you're working on — the blog part, technical SEO, or the AI showability part. How many hours are you gonna work on my website weekly? How many blogs are you gonna write for me? How will you change my SEO?

They need to ask. And the company needs to tell them:

  • We're gonna change your SEO.
  • We're gonna make it technical.
  • We're gonna change your whole page, so SEO can be improved more.
  • Or if the website needs to change, we need to change your website.

It's not like “oh, we're gonna make you rank first.” That's too broad. They will not, because there are too many indicators for it.

What the real work actually looks like

If someone signs with us for SEO, first we need to check their website from A to Z — every sitemap, every blog they wrote before, website showability, website score. If Google killed their website. We need to check every part of the indicator. And even if we need to start from the beginning, we will start from the beginning.

Sometimes you're just writing and you're thinking it will rank first. It will not. Sometimes Google will kill you because of too many repeated words, or because it looks like AI writing, so you're not gonna show to anyone.

And you need to choose the correct word — not too broad, but not too small as a local as well.

The honest timeline

When they sign with us, we need to choose the words they will rank first. In the first month, they will see they are climbing back to the top.

  • If it's hard to rank on those words, it will take time — such as two, three months.
  • If it's easy to rank those keywords, it can move much faster, sometimes inside a week.

It depends on the words, depends how broad it is. But they will start to see the result in one to four weeks.

That is the difference. It is not that nothing can move quickly — some words can. It is that nobody can promise you every keyword in a week, and the honest answer is telling you which is which before you pay.

That's a time-consuming process. Once it starts, once customers keep coming, they will like the results.

What I promise instead

We are transparency, and we will tell you directly: this keyword, it will be easy. This keyword, it will be more time. We will check every keyword — which keywords you want to rank.

And it's not gonna be one, two. Maybe it's gonna be ten, twenty. But it will take time. We will go slow by slow, day by day, and it will rank those keywords as we promise.

So we are 100% transparent. We will tell you everything straight up, and you will gain as we promise.

Questions business owners ask me

What questions should I ask an SEO company before hiring them?

Ask how many hours a week they will work on your site, how many blogs they will write, and exactly what they will change - technical SEO, the pages themselves, or the website itself. If the only answer is 'we will get you ranked first', that is too broad to mean anything.

Can an SEO company really rank me number one in a week?

For an easy, specific keyword it can move quickly, sometimes inside a week. For every keyword you want, no. Anyone promising all of them in a week is selling something they cannot deliver.

How long does SEO take to bring in customers?

You usually see movement in one to four weeks on the easier keywords. Harder, broader keywords take two to three months or longer. The compounding result comes later, which is why it is a time-consuming process rather than a switch you flip.
